BRIEFING:

whY A Nation?
The Free Nation of YAN (short for whY A Nation?) is based on a small group of people that simply desires to exercise the right to self-determination by way of autonomy. In today's world, that means we must create a new nation, and since the days of sailing to a distant shore and planting a flag are long gone, the only way to do that is by self-determination.

Definition?
Another name for us would be a micronation, but since most micronations are internet-based nation simulations or hobbies, we prefer the more accurate descriptor of "new nation project".

Goals?
Success of our project revolves around attaining absolute sovereignty, peacefully of course, since International law today forbids the use of military expansion as means of achieving recognition. To Establish a permanent presence in our new old homeland, and begin development of our capital city and its nearest ports and airports, to build the basics of our national export economy (Tourism, and Local productions), make contact with, and gain the support of, the sparce local populations that already inhabit the region, thoroughly survey and map our territory, to establish simple industries and boost population into the thousands by providing shelter to European refugees and those europeans seeking a new life.

Anything else?
Use the menu to your left to choose a topic, and your choice will be displayed on this side of your screen.

WHAT WE OFFER YOU:

Land
Via the principle of res nullis, the our nation lays claim to unoccupied, undeveloped land, or any land that is occupied by our nationals. The Free Nation of YAN is currently offering apartments at the capital to the any person who commit to the project, and plots of land to those who wish to create a village. (Each share is given individually, no matter if married)

Freedom
Many people wish they could escape the political games, the red tape, and the corruption of today's bloated bureaucracies. If this describes you, then look no further: you have found the place you are looking for. Our government is a minarchy, not exacly a monarchy, direct and to-the-point, honest with the people, free of corruption, and best of all: we like it that way. Our Nations doors swing wide for all manor of refugees. Individuals seeking political asylum will find in our nation a safe haven, and anyone fleeing war or persecution will also find themselves welcome. Our nation is a non-extradition treaty country, and will provide protection from whatever entity pursues you. Everyone we may consider as a legitimate national is pardoned upon crossing the border, provided you dedicate yourself wholly to our nation from that moment forward as an upstanding national. Think of it as a "second chance" at life.

Power
Many important government positions remain open, and nationals are invited to take up these key roles in the nation-building process. These positions will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you want to participate in our administration, you need to hurry.

Financial opportunities
The Free Nation of YAN? offers you economical freedom and free trading options. As we are still building the country any new ideas are more than welcome. As our nation is a fledgling tax haven nation, with no property or inheritance tax, and absolutely no hidden taxes or fees! Tax exiles will find us a wonderful place to settle down in.

Environment first!
We are a nation based in keeping the balance between humanity and its environment. Therefore our main industry will be arts and services, trade yes, but not exploitation. And no fossil fuel either, as there are so many other alternatives today.

Stability
Our national currency is locked into the practical value of material goods. This makes it virtually immune to inflation, but also allows it to expand well beyond the planet's limited quantity of gold bullion. In practice, our currency is actually more like a voucher, and it will retain such value for as long as our nation exists.

Environment
We believe in balance between nature and humanity, not to the point of excess of any of these sides. As a nation, we strive for balance with the natural world, and are responsible with the environment. We actively pursue the cleanest and most efficient technologies, and implement them as quickly as possible when they are available.

Sovereignity
The Council of YAN? is responsible for keeping the nation independent and sovereign. In recent decades, in many other nations, there has been increasing talk of globalization and the prospect of creating a World Government. We enjoy being independent, so our nation has no intention of joining such an entity. From our viewpoint, doing so would automatically constitute the surrender of at least some facets of our sovereignity, and regardless of the benefits, that price is too high.

Diplomacy:
The free Nation of YAN? is receptive to any nation that wishes to establish a relationship with us, be it formal or informal. Representatives may reach our government using the information provided in the "contact" button.

Simulation Projects
"Simulation" micronations: Our nation is interested in forming official relationships with other governments and self-determinist groups, but not with "sim-nations". We ask the simulationists to please understand that YAN? is not a "game" nation, but is rather a serious nation-building project. Simulationists are perfectly welcome to visit our forum and converse with our people, but sorry, no treaties.

Self Determination
Reflecting on our micronational roots, YAN is a strong supporter of many self-determinist movements.

Cultural sovereignity
YAN? is strongly opposed to any organization or corporation that seeks to undermine the sovereign rights of nation-states. We believe that a sovereign nation is responsible for all of its internal issues, and that multi-national corporations and NGOs have no business meddling in the affairs of a sovereign state. YAN is also extremely opposed to the idea of establishing a "One World Government" if it implies forced suppression of ANY local culture, and has vowed that it will never surrender its sovereign powers, in part or in whole, to any such organization. Not only is the dissolution of cultural boundaries and sovereign rights unneccessary and contrary to attaining a lasting peace, but it is inherently dangerous to pool so much power behind any centralized government. No matter how good the intentions, the potential for abuse of that power will always remain; it is highly likely that, eventually, such a government would devolve into a totalitarian system of control and will attempt to destroy local cultures from being. As a minarchy, we support a more distributed style of government, with the vast majority of power contained close to those who are governed, instead of halfway around the world. YAN?'s government is built upon exactly this kind of power distribution, and the integrity of our sovereignty is extremely precious to our people. We would rather die than be subjugated by anyone as we had enough of the madness and suppression that seem to be getting out of control nowadays, and we are determined to fight this form of cultural suppressive globalism in any way we can, to bring freedom of speech and human rights.
